First of all, if you have navigated to this page then, congratulations on your forthcoming wedding. You obviously realise that finding a wedding photographer is a step in the wedding planning process that should not be taken lightly. The wedding photographs will record one of the most treasured days of your life for posterity and there is no second chance.
I have had the privilege of photographing weddings for many years in the local area of Wiltshire, Somerset, Hampshire and Gloucestershire, as far north as Durham and Leeds, and as far west as New York. I am happy to travel, but distances beyond a 25 mile radius of Trowbridge must be taken into account.
Wedding Information
In the past I have occasionally worked to the specific instructions of the Bride and Groom. However, if I am given a free hand then my aim would be to 'document' the Wedding Day. This would include the traditional photography such as the signing of the register, groups at the church or wedding venue and the cutting of the cake etc. But the bulk of the photographs would be informal shots of the Bride and Groom, parents, family and guests in order to catch the spirit and essence of the occasion.
I have worked for more than thirty years within the TV and Film Industry on both dramas and documentaries and see these transferable skills of great value when photographing weddings. There are the dramatic shots - the posed set ups of groups or cake cutting etc and then the documentary or as they are now referred to as the 'Reportage' shots. This intimate, surreptitious, fly on the wall approach can record great images of the day.
What Happens
Two or three weeks before the wedding and having visited the wedding venues, I like to meet up with the couple to listen to and discuss exactly what sort of coverage they require, the make up and number of groups and any other additional event that they may have planned for their special day. It is my policy to attend only one wedding per day. I can start before the wedding with the build up to the ceremony, through to the end of the reception and departure of the Bride and Groom (given that it happens at a reasonable hour!).
I endeavour to shoot around 500 to 800 pictures that are then downloaded onto a 'Wedding - Proof Only' DVD from which you chose the prints you require. I can supply more than one of these disks to various branches of the family, and also display all the images in a password protected gallery on my website. When the families have decided on their choice of prints, it can then make more economical sense to decide which Wedding Package to choose.
As part of my service, I diligently remove any blemishes or flaws, correct, grade and enhance each image that is to be printed in order to produce the best possible end result. Revealing examples of this are at the following link on the 'Restoration and Retouching' page.
All these prints become the property of the client, along with a high resolution DVD containing all the pictures taken on the day and, if required, a DVD slide show to music of your choice.
If I may give a little advice, it would be that you should shortlist three or four photographers and meet them face to face, not only to view their work and discuss the coverage of your wedding and prices, but more importantly to see how you all get along. Chemistry is all important. Your wedding day and the build up to it can be an extremely stressful time and your photographer, who will be in close contact with you throughout the day, should be completely aware and sympathetic to this fact and definitely not add to it!
Mini Studio
At recent wedding venues and receptions, I have set up a 'Mini Studio' for fun and informal portraits. This has proved to be a popular extra, as weddings can be events where far flung friends and relations meet up for that rare occasion and everyone is dressed up and feeling a bit 'glam'! No orders are taken and no money exchanges hands. The pictures are put on my website and if people wish to order they are under no pressure. This is subject to the acceptance of the hotel or venue, the availability of a small amount of space and of course the approval of the Bride and Groom. Examples of this work can be found below.
On the Wedding Prices page, I have given the options for various packages. Please use these as a guide as none of these prices is carved in stone and I am quite willing to listen if you have very specific requirements.
When you book your wedding you will be eligible for a half price 'Portraits at Home' photo session, where you can invite anyone you wish to attend (even pets are welcome!). Please ask for details if this interests you.
